SUMMARY:Frame Yourself - How to Present Yourself as an Ideal Job Candidate
DESCRIPTION:An informational workshop to help Ph.D. students and postdocs frame themselves as ideal job candidates. Workshop includes defining your brand (marketing terminology that refers to your identifiable skills and expertise\,) transferrable skills\, keywords\, and a chance to share what future workshops would help you interview for your ideal job. Workshop will be 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and the event will end with a mixer\, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm with light refreshments served.

DESCRIPTION:Science is so much more than lab tests\, experiments and analysis – it’s about our ability to resonate with peers\, media\, decision makers\, industry\, and the public. Perhaps more than ever\, communicating our science effectively and succinctly can be the difference between making an impact vs. missing opportunities to make the world a better place. This workshop will focus on science communication – drawing from lessons learned and hands-on training opportunities. Case studies\, data on communication\, and the “message box” will be discussed\, all in a highly participatory and interactive way. All fields are welcome — from novices to experts — and be prepared to be an active participant! \nDr. Ben Houlton is the Director of the John Muir Institute of the Environment at the University of California.
