SUMMARY:IP and Licensing Fundamentals: How and Why to Safeguard Your Technology
DESCRIPTION:Having a working knowledge of intellectual property (IP) and licensing is essential for safeguarding your technology and ensuring the long-term success of your commercialization endeavors. The Cornell Engineering Commercialization Fellowship invites the entrepreneurial community to attend IP and Licensing Fundamentals: How and Why to Safeguard Your Technology\, a workshop led by Frank DeCosta and Phillip Owh. \nDeCosta is a widely-regarded expert in patent litigation and a partner at Finnegan Henderson\, a full-service IP firm where he leads the firm’s litigation section with experience in patent litigation\, software\, and client counseling. Owh serves as the Director of Business Development & Licensing — Life Sciences at the Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) at Cornell University\, where he draws on his background in biochemistry to manage a portfolio of inventions that span the life sciences spectrum from agriculture to human and animal health. \nIn this in-person workshop\, participants will be provided with the knowledge and tools to protect their IP\, as well as information on different strategies for patent filing. Participants will also gain insight into the process of commercializing and licensing their technology through the CTL framework. At the end of the session\, there will be a Q&A session in which participants will have the opportunity to ask their most pressing IP and licensing questions. \nFor more information\, or to register\, visit the event website.
