DESCRIPTION:Vinnie Ustach\, PhD\, will discuss his path from graduate school at UC Davis through a postdoc at U of Maryland and on to a rapidly evolving career with the genetic testing company GeneDx\, where he began as a Data Scientist and currently serves as Senior Machine Learning Engineer. Ustach will offer advice for current PhD students and postdocs on the academia-to-industry transition and the day-to-day experience of conducting research in an industry setting (with a particular but not exclusive focus on careers in data science).
