SUMMARY:Thinking of a career in Academic Publishing?
DESCRIPTION:This webinar features two professionals from Cornell University Press. \nMartyn Beeny is Marketing and Sales Director at Cornell University Press after holding the same role at University of Nebraska Press. Martyn entered publishing while completing his Ph.D. in history. He never intended to be a book marketer\, but when a job opened at the South Dakota State Historical Society Press that combined his love of books and history it seemed a good idea. His apprenticeship with this small publisher changed his career path from academia to marketing and publishing. After eight years in South Dakota\, he worked as Marketing and Sales Director at one of the largest university presses in Lincoln\, NE\, before moving to Cornell UP\, where he has been for five years. \nBethany Wasik is an acquisitions editor at Cornell University Press\, currently acquiring projects in the fields of Classics\, Archaeology\, Modern European History\, and Military History. Prior to joining the acquisitions team at Cornell University Press six years ago\, she completed a Ph.D. at Indiana University and two postdoctoral fellowships in molecular biology and genetics at Yale and Cornell Universities. In addition to her science background\, she minored in anthropology with a focus on archaeology\, and took a wide range of history courses as an undergraduate. Her transition from academics to publishing was fueled by a passion for editing and reviewing scholarly content and a desire to promote that content to a larger audience. \nAdvance Registration Required for Zoom Link.
