Center for Life Science Ventures Student Projects

The Center for Life Science Ventures, a life science startup incubator on campus, has a few client projects that would benefit from the help of Cornell students. The projects typically involve market scan, business strategy, customer discovery etc. Students can apply their knowledge from class, get first-hand experience working with a startup, and help move great technologies towards greater impact.

If you are interested in any of the following projects, please contact ying.yang@cornell.edu. If you are interested in working for life science startups but the projects don’t fit you interest, please don’t hesitate to reach out too.

Project 1: Urology clinical trial assistance

Company: CareTech Human aims to lead the field of remote urology monitoring. Our solution integrates a device that utilizes novel contactless sensing technology and proprietary machine learning to provide continuous health monitoring, superior data, and better clinical decision-making.

Clinicians treating older patients have multiple options for monitoring their patient’s health, such as blood glucose monitors (diabetes) and Holter Monitors (cardiology). But in urology, there are no similar automated solutions to regularly and conveniently assess symptoms and share quantitative health data with a doctor. In the US, this directly impacts 35MM people with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), 33 million with Overactive Bladder (OAB), and 58MM with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS).

CareTech Human stands at the precipice of a transformative expedition, as our products brace themselves for rigorous real-world validation in the years that lie ahead. With the versatile scope of our platform technology ready to transcend across various health domains, we are gearing up for a series of impactful clinical trials in the imminent future.

CareTech Human is supported and trusted by world-famous foundations like Google for Startups, CRDF Global, The Roddenberry Foundation (TRF).

Project: This project revolves around the harmonious fusion of cross-functional collaboration, regulatory compliance, and meticulous trial execution. Within this endeavor, the project team will collectively contribute to shaping clinical trials that adhere to rigorous standards, foster innovation, and drive our product strategy forward. Drawing insights from extensive market research, user engagement data, and competitive analysis, we will be empowered to make informed decisions that lead to continuous improvements. This project will also encompass the creation of comprehensive documentation, reports, and presentations, ensuring seamless communication of findings and strategies to stakeholders across all tiers of the organization. Proactive risk assessment and mitigation strategies will be a cornerstone, seamlessly integrated into the clinical trial lifecycle to ensure the triumphant realization of the project’s objectives.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have methodology knowledge in the field. Be interested in protocol design and development, collaborate with the clinical research team, and have some skills in data analysis.

Project 2: Influenza vaccine market analysis

Company: VIVA Viral Vaccines is a startup biotechnology company developing a novel multivalent vaccine platform for generation of highly effective and broadly protective vaccines against current viral diseases and emerging viral pathogens. Our first product is a novel vaccine against seasonal influenza infections.

Project: We would like help with the following:

  • Analysis of US and global influenza vaccine markets, including standard egg-based vaccines, vaccines for high-risk and elderly populations, and egg-free vaccines
  • Understanding of known problems associated with each influenza vaccine type
  • Cost and pricing information for influenza vaccines by type
  • Information on clinical trial type and size for vaccine types
  • Help building out business-model for influenza vaccine development

Project 3: Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) landscape

Background: Infertility is a prevalent global issue affecting around 10% of couples, creating a significant challenge for those seeking assisted reproductive technology (ART) solutions. In response to the pressing need for accessible and efficient fertility treatments, we have developed an innovative automated platform. Recognizing the high demand and limited resources in the assisted reproductive technology (ART) landscape, our mission is to provide a solution that addresses the financial and procedural challenges faced by couples. This automation not only makes ART more affordable but also improves embryo formation success rates, marking a substantial advancement in an industry where incremental improvements can have a profound impact.

Project:

  • Identifying market entry points, assessing risks and benefits
  • Developing in-depth competition analysis, comparing our platform against emerging competitors in this market
  • Identifying the most viable business model for the technology platform
