Faculty, academic staff, postdocs, and graduate students are encouraged to participate in this workshop, led by Dr. Sharon Milgram, Director, Office of Intramural Training and Education at NIH. She believes that having both mentors and mentees present at the workshop will lead to a more helpful and productive discussion.

Dr. Milgram lectures widely on science careers, mentorship, leadership, and management in research environment. The talk will discuss techniques for having difficult conversations, resolving conflict, and giving and receiving effective feedback.

About the Presenter

Dr. Sharon Milgram joined the NIH Office of the Director as the Director of the Office of Intramural Training and Education in 2007. She directs a trans-NIH Office dedicated to the career advancement of over 5,000 trainees.

Previously a professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Development Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she served as the Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program, Director of the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, and the Director of the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience.

She lives in Takoma Park, MD with her wife and son.
