Private Contributions for the Public Good: The Role of Philanthropy in Science

Lecture by Stephen Quake, Ph.D. (Andrew D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell; Chan Zuckerberg Initiative) followed by panel discussion.

Dr. Stephen Quake is a scientist, inventor and entrepreneur whose research is at the nexus of biology, physics and technology development. Dr. Quake has received numerous awards for his work and has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, The National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Inventors.

Dr. Quake was the co-president of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub from 2016-2022 and currently serves as the Head of Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, roles in which he helps make strategic decisions about funding scientific initiatives.

This special seminar takes you behind the scenes of such organizations and decisions through a talk by Dr. Quake followed by a panel discussion including additional experts with experience at other funding entities.

Dr. Quake visits Cornell as an A.D. White Professor-at-Large from October 23-27, 2023.
