Science, entrepreneurship, higher education administration, strategy and mentoring all in one career? Dr. Luna will briefly introduce the Novartis Institute of BioMedical Research (NIBR) and its role in contributing towards biomedical education, research, and innovation. He will further discuss his career journey and give insights on how to most effectively share your research narrative. We will end with a fireside chat that will give participants a chance to ask questions and discuss graduate school, research, careers, etc.
Organized by Subash Bhandari and Ashley Cardenas, moderators, In partnership with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Diversity Programs in Engineering, and the Department of Food Science. Hosted by Careers Beyond Academia.
About the speaker
Rafael Luna is Head of Biomedical Education & Innovation at Novartis Institutes of BioMedical Research (NIBR). He currently serves on the Advisory Council for the National Postdoctoral Association and leads several initiatives to advance biomedical research, promote career mentoring and bring together academic and industry partners to achieve these objectives. He authored the book “The Art of Scientific Storytelling” that helps readers rethink and rephrase how to share research orally and in written form so that others will read and cite your work. Copies of his book will be given away to early attendees, and to those who ask excellent questions at the talk so you too can follow his step-by-step formula to tell your research story to the public as well as scientific peers.
